(Antwerp, January 18, 1573?CThe Hague, 1621) was a still life painter of the Dutch Golden Age.He started his career in Antwerp, but spend most of it in Middelburg (1593?C1613), where he became dean of the painters' guild. He later worked in Amsterdam (1614), Bergen op Zoom (1615?C1616), Utrecht (1616?C1619), and Breda (1619). He specialised in painting still lifes with flowers. In 1587, Ambrosius Bosschaert moved from Antwerp to Middelburg with his family because of the threat of religious persecution. At the age of twenty-one, he joined the cityes Guild of Saint Luke. Annibale Carracci
1560-1609 Italian Annibale Carracci Locations Painter, draughtsman and printmaker, brother of (2) Agostino Carracci. Since his lifetime, he has been considered one of the greatest Italian painters of his age. His masterpiece, the ceiling (1597-1601) of the Galleria Farnese, Rome, merges a vibrant naturalism with the formal language of classicism in a grand and monumental style. Annibale was also instrumental in evolving the ideal, classical landscape and is generally credited with the invention of CARICATURE.
CARACCIOLO, Giovanni Battista
Italian Baroque Era Painter, ca.1578-1635 Italian painter. He was one of the greatest Caravaggesque painters and the founder of Neapolitan Caravaggism. His Liberation of St Peter (c. 1615; Naples, Pio Monte della Misericordia; ) and Christ Washing the Feet of the Disciples (1622; Naples, Certosa di S Martino; see fig. 2 below) are masterpieces of 17th-century Neapolitan art, and attain a powerful and tragic grandeur.
